Did you know that ice cream dates back to before 400 BC in ancient Persia? Not only do the Persians have fabulous rugs, but they invented ice cream, too! During the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero, he had ice brought down from the mountains to be combined with fruit. Though a slightly different form, ice cream has been around since practically the beginning of time!
Although all ice cream is wonderful, I think that the best ice cream is homemade. Bryan and I received a cheap-brand automatic ice cream maker as a wedding gift. Last night he commented that whoever bought it for us had made an excellent decision. The maker has more than paid for itself! I usually remember who wedding gifts are from, but it was one that was received at a shower in Bryan's hometown. My dear husband suggested that I pull up an my old thank-you list and write another thank-you saying how much we have enjoyed it! As a side note, I personally think that hand-cranked ice cream is the best. There is not a growing-up memory of Fourth of July that does not have the image of someone (or multiple people) sitting underneath a huge tree, just a crankin' away.
My favorite ice cream is peach. Not vanilla with peaches on top, but vanilla with peaches mixed in before the actual ice cream is made. Absolutely heaven!
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!
Ice cream is my weakness! :) I didn't know the Persians invented it...or that it's been around so long!

We just got a Pinkberry here, and I'm sooo excited! This post makes me want some today! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMmm, ice cream my favorite! You should also look into making gelato with your ice cream maker, it's just as fun!
