This post is a little bit different from my normal posts, but it is about something I really believe in and spent the past weekend attending. Before Bryan and I got married my parents gave us a gift of going to a marriage conference called A Weekend to Remember, which is put on by Family Life. For over 30 years Family Life has been offering biblical approaches to real-world challenges faced by people everyday and helping families become stronger and grounded.
We recently found out that there was going to be a Weekend to Remember conference in Park City, five minutes from our house. We jumped at the opportunity to attend and signed up immediately. Here is a little bit of information about the conference from Family Life's website.
What you and your spouse will hear during the Weekend to Remember® is the result of more than three decades of biblical research by a team of men and women who distilled what it takes to have a successful marriage and family. Our speakers will show you exactly how to pursue a marriage that really works through stories of their own breakthroughs and blunders. We want you to leave the weekend with encouragement, hope, and practical tools to build and grow your relationship. That’s why we call this a Weekend to Remember.
Since Bryan and I first attended five years ago, we have recommended this conference to so many friends. Friends who have not gotten married yet and friends who have been married for years. Let's be honest, each of us struggles in our marriage and could benefit from guidance in the right direction. There were couples in attendance who had been married anywhere from two weeks to fifty years. Here is a video of a testimonial from a couple who attended one of these conferences.
Trust me, it's ok to attend one of these even if nothing is drastically wrong with your marriage. My main reason for wanting to attend this past weekend was to get a bit of a refresher course and remind me of what kind of wife I should be to my husband. Yes, some of your friends might think you are crazy and ask if everything is ok between you and your spouse, but who cares? Why would you not want to attend something to help you in your daily life and relationship with your spouse? There are about eight sessions throughout the weekend where you listen to speakers talking about real life predicaments, here are a few: Why Marriages Fail; Unlocking the Mystery of Marriage; We Fight Too; How Marriages Thrive. After each session you and your spouse spend some time on a getaway project, which means you sit down together and discuss a certain topic given in a booklet. Since Bryan and I had previously attended, we got an alumni booklet and focused on finances. Saturday night is date night for you and your spouse. Bryan surprised me with a romantic dinner at the Glitretind in Deer Valley, which was fantastic!
These conferences take place all over the country. I guarantee that there is going to be one near you over the next year. I strongly urge you to get on the Family Life website, check it out and sign up for a getaway weekend for you and your honey. Here is a direct link to the events page. If you want to learn more about Family Life visit their website and look around. Feel free to ask me any questions.
