Tasty Tuesday-Christmas Cocktail

Gingerbread Apple Cocktail
2 oz. Domaine de Canton
1 oz. vanilla vodka
2.5 oz. apple cider
A few drops of lemon juice
Orange zest
Agave syrup

Line a chilled martini glass lightly with agave syrup on a dish followed by spiced graham cracker crumbs. Place all ingredients except for orange zest in a shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into glass. Freshly grate orange zest on drink and serve immediately.

Birthday

Twenty-seven years ago I was born on my Daddy's birthday. My mother had the doctor hand me to him first, then leaned over to give him his card--a kiss. Today is the first birthday we have been together in the past four years, and do not know when we will be able to be together again for another. I am truly blessed with the world's most wonderful set of parents, an adoring husband and an amazing little sister. I am extremely thankful for this 27th birthday!

Zara

For those of you who do not know, I am a huge leopard print fan. Not that I wear gobs of it, but I always seem drawn to it. I found Zara a few years ago while living in Mexico. They have such cute pieces that are reasonably priced and will not break the bank. These are some of my favorite pieces that they have for fall and winter.

Chocolate Pilgrim Hats

This is such a fun, sweet treat to make around Thanksgiving time, and very easy to put together.
Ingredients
24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies
12-ounce package chocolate chips
24 marshmallows
tube of yellow decorators' frosting
toothpicks


1. Place the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on wax paper, spacing them well apart.
2. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave. (I did half of the package at a time).
3. One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow in the melted chocolate, then promptly center it on top of a cookie. (I used another toothpick to slide the marshmallow off and onto the cookie so there wouldn't be any fingerprints).
4. Let the hats sit until the chocolate is hard. Place in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
5. Pipe the decorators' frosting in the shape of a buckle at the front of each hat.

Getting Ready

Today will be the second Saturday in a row that I will be getting ready for Christmas. I am a firm believer in not decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I feel that often times our society skips over the holiday in which we are to give thanks to the Lord for all of the many blessings that he has bestowed upon us. I will, however, be attending the Mistletoe Fair today. It is a local event where the public can view all sorts of Christmas-related items from vendors in the area. My main goal is to find holiday wrapping paper. Any other little items that I pick up will just be extras. What are you doing today?

I came home to find this in my kitchen bar sink. Yep, that's the Christmas Ale that Bryan and Keith spent last night brewing. I think my Christmas brunch list just got longer!

Ohio Trip, Holiday Floral

I am extremely behind on all Blog related things, and I have a ton to post! Let me start out by putting up a few pictures from my trip to Ohio. It could not have come at a better time, as I desperately needed to get away for a mini-vacation. My sister works for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation in Columbus. She interned at Headquarters a few summers ago, but I was unable to visit while she was there at that time. Her roommate, Claire (the intern this past summer who now works full-time), had a birthday while I was in town, so I very much enjoyed being a part of her celebration. Both of these Southern girls have now found themselves in the Midwest, and we are all interested to see how they fare their first winter.

This past weekend I attended a holiday decor class at my local florist shop. Bitsy, our very creative florist, has been named the Arkansas Floral Designer of the Year. She did an amazing job of putting on a holiday workshop. I thought I would show just a few of the shots I was able to snap. As part of the class, I was able to make a wreath with Deco Mesh. If you have not used it, go by some and try it! I have several projects that I am currently working on, but will not be posted until they are complete after Thanksgiving.


These I thought would go wonderfully at a hunting lodge or cabin, or if your has a rustic feel to it. Notice the antlers and cotton!
